When you should choose Resume.io

Resume.io's template library is genuinely deeper than ours. If your priority is visual variety — six or seven distinct layouts, each with multiple colour ways and font pairings — they'll give you more starting points than we do today.

Their multi-language support is also more mature. If you're writing CVs in French, German, or Spanish, Resume.io localises the editor UI and provides language-specific resume conventions. We currently optimise the AI for English-language postings.

And if you only need to write one resume that you'll reuse for years, our intelligence layer is overkill. Resume.io's no-fuss WYSIWYG editor will get you a polished PDF in twenty minutes, then leave you alone.

When you should choose Tailored

When you're applying to many roles, the work isn't writing the CV once — it's rewriting it for each posting. Our Smart Tailoring takes a job description and proposes 5-8 minimal edits per resume, with anti-hallucination guards so the AI can't invent companies or fabricate metrics. Resume.io has no equivalent.

When you want to know which bullets are actually pulling weight, every Experience line gets a 0-100 impact score with a one-line suggestion. Pair that with the recruiter heatmap — a simulation of the first six seconds a recruiter spends on your CV — and you stop guessing which lines need work.

When you want to track which versions worked, every save creates a snapshot. The diff viewer shows exactly what changed between any two versions, and the Kanban board tracks which version went to which job. That's the difference between a one-off document and a measurable job search.

Frequently asked

Is Tailored free?
Yes. Every account starts with five AI credits included — one credit per AI action, and a full application (tailoring, cover letter, interview prep) is three. After that, credit packs start at $0.99 and never expire, or Pro gives unlimited use at $19/month or $149/year (~$12.42/mo). The bullet scoring, heatmap, and job URL fetcher stay free for everyone.
Can I cancel Pro?
Anytime, from the Stripe billing portal. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for — no abrupt cutoffs.
Does Resume.io have AI?
Resume.io includes some pre-written content suggestions, but not a job-description-aware tailoring engine. It cannot read a posting and propose targeted edits to your CV the way Smart Tailoring does.
Is the AI safe with my employment history?
Yes. Five deterministic guards check every proposal for fabricated dates, fabricated metrics, fabricated company names, stale paths, and no-op edits before any suggestion reaches you. If the AI tries to invent a number, the proposal is filtered out before you see it.
Can I export to Word?
Yes — every template ships native .docx export alongside pixel-accurate PDF. Use PDF for sending to humans and DOCX for ATS uploads or recipients who want to edit the file. Both formats are free for every user.
